Peer Support Services/Recovery Support Specialists (RSS):

SAMHC has implemented the continued use and expansion of Recovery Support Specialist Services to complement other crisis services offered. Peer support services are provided by persons who have received care through the behavioral health system or have family members who have done so. The main focus for RSSs is to assist individuals in crisis to reach their recovery goals. The personal experiences that RSSs have had and the ways they have themselves successfully navigated their own crises and the behavioral health system prepares them to assist, support, and inspire others who are currently in crisis. The staff employed by SAMHC are either already certified by the Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) Institute or equivalent or will become certified within 6 months of employment, and meet A.A.C. R9-20 qualifications for a behavioral health professional, behavioral health technician, or behavioral health paraprofessional.
